Autumn approaching

Summer has passed by quickly. None of us enjoys the heat, humidity and extra-high UV exposure - so we all endure stoically. Hence - there is little to post. My main activities have been in knitting - I love to join in with the Summer of Socks internet event and spend my summer obsessing about sock knitting while I wait for the season to pass.

Hershey is settling in. All three dogs seem to be thriving on their latest diets. Rowdy continues to be troubled by itchy (back) feet although we seem to be gradually beating back this latest evidence of an overactive immune response. Joint health continues to be a fragile state for Rowdy. Over the summer, we decided, at the urging of my obedience teacher, to simply focus on Rally this next year. She urged me to consider teaching Rally, and.....I think I might give it a try. More about this later, as we enter a more dog-active time of the year.

AKC Responsible Dog Obedience Day is coming up!! Look for more on this here.

Rowdy

Just in case you haven't seen Rowdy in a little while. We all prefer winter to summer at my house, so maybe the picture will cool you down a bit.

Hershey's moving day

Hershey plays in her new backyard

Hershey came home today. Rowdy and Tillie thought this was all great fun, and big excitement. Hershey missed Mother when she left, but the whole day was so much fun and she felt so secure that she turned her attention to going outside in the backyard with Rowdy and Tillie to have fun. Then, since Mother left after dinner, we were all ready to collapse. Hershey found a nice spot on the couch where she could keep an eye on us and curled up to snooze.

Dogs just don't get any nicer than Hershey. We are all happy she is here. And we are all going to sleep very soundly tonight.

Overdue

Well this has certainly dragged out for a long time.....I need to figure out how best to use this blog.

But now we have dog news. We are adopting a new dog - from my mother. When a co-worker got caught up in the ugly business at work (long story short, boss decided to save everyone's job by cutting everyone's pay - yep, you read it right - he was astonished to learn that the consequence would his best staff would leave, in approximately the order of their employability.) Natalie left for a better job, but could not take her two dogs with her. A family member took the German Shepherd, but what about little Hershey, a Hurricane Ivan rescue of uncertain origin.

She's perfect for my mother. Well, maybe she would have been 5 years ago. It quickly became clear that this is not something my mother is really not going to find enjoyable at this point in her life. So she's coming to us, with my mother going on record as Hershey's co-owner.

She is adorable and wants nothing more than to be loved. Constantly. She is even-tempered and delightful - we think she'll make a Therapy Dog who can share her love with lots of people who may also have had some tough times in their lives, too. Plus - since she's short-haired, we can dress her up and show off pretty collars and such with her. Pink will be her color.

Without further ado, Miss Hershey, seen here with the very furry Princess Miss Tillie:

She looks up at you with eyes that are filled with hope and love, and wags her tail non-stop.
